The American Dream. It offers everyone the freedom and opportunity to attain a better life. It can stand for democracy, liberty and equality, But since the great Depression it has emphasized material wealth and upward mobility for an increasing number of Americans, it has meant owning a home in a prosperous and safe place–the Suburbs.
