In a previous interview produced by PBS Wisconsin, longtime Madison Symphony conductor John DeMain traced his musical development from his Ohio childhood to his experiences conducting George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and working closely with Leonard Bernstein. In this sequel, he tells us about building an orchestra and selecting music that will attract and hold an audience.
