A national discussion on race relations is coming to the Fox Valley on Thursday, inviting anyone to come to discuss the “State of Black America.”
The discussion is hosted by the Appleton-based non-profit African Heritage Inc.
Sabrina Robins, a board member for the organization, said more blacks are moving into northeastern Wisconsin from Chicago and Milwaukee, but she said “more” is a relative term.

“We also have the added challenges of being in a predominantly white community that may not have the cultural experience,” said Robins.
She said U.S. census numbers show African-Americans make up only 1.3 percent of the population in Outagamie County.
“You are the only one in a restaurant, you are the only one at work or school,” Robins said.
She said she hopes Thursday’s event in Appleton is a candid discussion among people of all races.
The two featured speakers at the event are economist and commentator Dr. Julianne Malveaux and Joe Madison, former director of the Detroit NAACP and a Sirius XM radio host.
