‘We Got A Permit Singers’ Gather At Capitol To Poke Fun At Solidarity Singers

Despite dueling singalongs at the state Capitol today, there were few confrontations and no arrests.

Conservative commentator Dave Blaska organized his sing along inside the Capitol, calling his group the “we got a permit singers.” It was a not-so-subtle jab at the Solidarity Singers who normally gather in the rotunda without a permit. Blaska’s group made the point with a song with the lyrics, “Got a permit, got a permit, got a permit, got a permit just now.”

Blaska says he got a permit to make sure his sing along did not violate anyone else’s rights.

“We didn’t have to put any money down,” says Blaska. “It’s very easy to fill out, so if someone has trouble filling out permits we’ll help them. We have people here who are skilled in the writing arts and the filling-out arts.”

Rather than spar with Blaska’s group, a much larger group of Solidarity Singers gathered outside today and put their own new twists on old protest songs: One of their songs had the lyrics, “No more permits, no more permits, no more permits over me.”

Regulars at the sing along say they normally go outside when there are permitted events inside.

Theresa Wigchers says the Solidarity Sing Along is misunderstood.

“We’re just here to protest our government,” says Wigchers. “You don’t need permission from your government to protest your government.”

Liberal radio personality John “Sly” Sylvester briefly shouted at the conservative sing along. He stopped after he was immediately surrounded by several police.
