Two former major league baseball catchers, Joe Torre and Bob Uecker, cracked jokes together at a dedication ceremony for a Torre Plaque at Miller Park in Milwaukee on Thursday.
Torre, who will be inducted in National Baseball Hall of Fame this summer, began his major league career with the Milwaukee Braves in the early 1960s. At the ceremony on Thursday, Torre was introduced by Uecker, an old teammate and current Milwaukee Brewers announcer.
“Joe was … you were … a major part of my leading the league in past balls,” said Uecker. “But I remember how helpful you were – as each ball went by me, you hollered ‘Over there! It’s over there!’”

Torre responded by noting his brother Frank preceded him with the Braves.
“Actually my brother Frank broke Uecker in for me,” said Torre. “And then Uecker broke me down to little bitty pieces.”
Torre also praised Milwaukee fans, and said it was sad when the Braves left for Atlanta after the 1965 season. He also noted the current Brewers team is doing well, with the best record in the league so far this year.
