Democrats say Gov. Scott Walker has been too busy trying to woo presidential caucus voters in Iowa to catch problems with his state budget proposal.
The state Democratic Party and several lawmakers are focusing on Walker’s explanation for why language in the University of Wisconsin’s public service mission statement describing what’s known as the “Wisconsin Idea” was temporarily changed in the budget document.
Party Chairman Mike Tate said the governor doesn’t care what happens in Wisconsin.

“In fact, he held a conference call with Iowa caucus voters the night before his budget address. Maybe if he’d spent a little more time reviewing his budget — doing his job — Scott Walker would have caught this so-called drafting error,” said Tate.
Walker released a statement on Thursday in which he blames a communication problem between his staff and people working at the State Budget Office. He now says changing the Wisconsin Idea serves no purpose.
Walker said no one will be disciplined, but Democrats say the governor should discipline himself.
