Wisconsin LGBTQ+ advocacy groups have filed more federal complaints against school districts that declined to update discrimination policies to protect trans and gender nonconforming students.

The co-founder and co-chair of the Sheboygan County LGBTQ Alliance talked with “Wisconsin Today” about the legacy of gay bars, LGBTQ+ acceptance and building a safe and open community in Sheboygan. 

Since 2019, sales of LGBTQ+ romance have increased 173 percent. Wisconsin writers Nance Sparks and Lee Pulaski say a more open society and great sexual tension is attracting readers.

The marker states the uprising “united a community, awakened local activism, and scored an early victory for the early LGBTQ rights movement in the United States.” 

The LGBTQ History Project is now processing thousands of photos taken at This Is It! bar, a staple in Milwaukee’s LGBTQ+ community since it was opened in 1968.

For LGBTQ Wisconsinites outside of large urban centers, Pride is an opportunity to find community and support in an environment where they might normally feel isolated.

A Milwaukee Public Schools principal allegedly physically and verbally abused a first grade student because his parents are gay, according to a federal lawsuit. 

Wisconsin is home to nearly 400 member congregations of the United Methodist Church. More than 40 congregations in the state recently left the church in the wake of fractures over LGBTQ+ policies.
