A semitrailer hit an Amtrak passenger train carrying 300 people Friday at 1:52 p.m. in the Town of Elba in Dodge County. Only the driver of the semitrailer sustained injuries and was transported to Columbus Hospital.

The truck hit the train near the intersection of County Road BB and Highway 60 near Columbus in south-central Wisconsin.

“I don’t believe the train is at the actual location,” he said. “I believe it continued on for a ways, and there had to be some follow up by some of the deputies. So I believe it was still able to travel on the tracks.”

The Chicago-bound Amtrak Empire Builder was traveling at about 80 miles per hour when the truck hit it.

Enright said he wasn’t sure if this accident delayed Amtrak service, but he said traffic conditions are normal.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the semitrailer driver.
