José Delgado, longtime Wisconsin utilities executive and member of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, has died.

Prior to his time on the board, the Cuban native was an utilities executive who oversaw the creation of the American Transmission Co. (ATC), the first multi-state company to focus solely on the construction of electric transmission power lines.
Before his time with ATC, Delgado spent 27 years at Wisconsin Electric Power Company, now known as We Energies.

Delgado earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Marquette University as well as a master’s degree in business administration from UW-Milwaukee.
In a statement announcing Delgado’s death Monday, UW Board of Regents President Drew Petersen said Delgado was a “Wisconsin leader.”
“While serving on the Board of Regents since 2014, Regent Delgado was a champion of higher education as a way to improve lives and communities in Wisconsin while holding the UW System accountable,” said Petersen.
The cause of death was not released.
He died over the weekend, UW System interim President Tommy Thompson said during a Wisconsin Public Forum event Monday afternoon.
