Governor Scott Walker wants the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) board to meet this week to discuss a scathing new audit.
The Legislative Audit Bureau and the Joint Finance Committee are scheduled to discuss the WEDC on Thursday. Walker says the corporation’s board meeting could happen as soon as Wednesday:
“From the Board’s standpoint, I and the other Board members would like a chance even before the audit committee to go through comprehensively – to spend a meeting on nothing else except this issue, and to go through and really for the board, but also for the public, to see what has been done, what is being done and what the plan is to achieve that and what other things are left on the table.”

The audit found that the WEDC broke the law in the way it awarded some grants and failed to adequately track many others. Democrats say the issues raise red flags, and are urging Republicans to postpone action on the agency’s budget until corrective actions are taken.
