A Madison area roofing company is seeing an increase in business from damages caused by Monday’s hail storm.

Madison’s Badgerland Roofers has been getting calls since 5:15 p.m. Monday about damages to gutters, siding and roofs. As of Tuesday afternoon, they received about 40 calls, mostly from Middleton, co-owner Amanda McKinney said.

McKinney said the damages on roofs they’ve looked at have ranged from minimal to serious.

“Some areas where there’s patches, we needed to tarp the roofs, some areas (are) going to need repair, quite a few homes are going to need total new roofs,” McKinney said.

The National Weather Service reported the size of hail in parts of Middleton ranged between a ping pong ball and an egg. The majority of hail was the size of a golf ball.

“Hail is hard on roof,” McKinney said. “When there (are) multiple marks in a small area, it’s not good. It needs to be repaired, it needs to be replaced.”

More stormy weather is expected this week in Madison and Middleton, The National Weather Service reports.
